MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center

A pioneer in proton therapy

Our Proton Therapy Center is an international center of excellence for proton therapy, research and education. We are the world’s first proton therapy facility located within a comprehensive cancer center.

Our team continues to expand ways to use proton therapy to benefit patients. Our team pioneered pencil beam proton therapy, also called scanning beam, and intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT). We are one of the few centers worldwide offering these types of proton therapy to our patients. As a result, patients may experience fewer side effects and improved quality of life— during and after treatment.

We have had remarkable success treating tumors of the:  brain, prostate, liverlunghead and neck, esophagus, breast, rectum, and central nervous system. We also treat lymphomapediatric cancers, sarcomas and other rare tumors.
