Houston Neighborhoods

MD Anderson Cancer Center main campus

The Texas Medical Center

The Texas Medical Center is home to some of the best medical facilities such as hospitals, research institutions, nursing programs, dental school and more. Additionally, you will find attractions you can visit such as Hermann Park and its golf course.  Next to Hermann Park you can visit the Houston Zoo that is home to more than 6,000 exotic animals.


Downtown Houston

Downtown is the central business district which is home to many steakhouses, sports stadiums, theater district and underground shopping tunnels. You can enjoy a steak at Vic & Anthony’s before catching a baseball game at Minute Maid Park or a play at the Alley Theater.



Midtown is located between Downtown and the Museum District. Some of the popular restaurants include Harry's which offers breakfast and lunch. You can enjoy waffles, French toast or enjoy some Greek food for lunch. If you are craving Vietnamese food, Midtown has your fix for banh mi and pho. Brennan’s of Houston serves a Creole-inspired menu which includes turtle soup, oysters and more.



Montrose is an eccentric and diverse area located in the heart of the city. Here you can find 24-hour drive-thrus, quaint coffee shops, art galleries, vintage stores and more.


The Museum District

The Museum District is located between Downtown Houston and the Texas Medical Center. It is home to 19 different cultural institutions which are walking distance from each other. You can also take a stroll at Rice University and visit The James Turrell Skyspace.


The Galleria

The Galleria is an upscale shopping center with around 400 stores and restaurants, two high-rise hotels, and three office towers. A short distance from there, you will find the Water Wall which is 64 feet tall. The Water Wall is a great place to picnic and relax.



Meyerland is located in southwest Houston and is known for its big shopping center called Meyerland Plaza. Here, you will find restaurants such as Saltgrass, Fadi’s Mediterranean Grill or stores such as Target, Old Navy, JCPenney and more. Bellaire is small city next to Meyerland Plaza. You can find restaurants offering Mexican, Thai, Spanish, American food and more.


West University

West University neighbors the city of Bellaire. Like Bellaire, it is a small city and down the street from the Texas Medical Center You can find juice and smoothie bars and a Whole Foods Market.


Rice Village

Rice Village is located next to West University and offers shopping, restaurants and nightlife. For those who love shopping, you will find an eclectic mix of national brand names and unique boutiques. For food, you can walk and choose from Italian, French, Indian, Spanish Mexican restaurants and more.
